L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation Review

The newest foundation trend is cushion foundations! What is a 'cushion' foundation you ask? It is a sponge in a compact case which is drenched with liquid foundation. You tap the sponge with your preferred applicator and apply. The great thing about this is that you waste far less product and it is a lot less messy, unlike typical liquid foundations that you have to pump out onto something.

The L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion* is inside a nice sturdy pink/purple case, with two trays inside. When you first open the compact, there is a nice big mirror inside the lid and the first tray, where the applicator sponge is. You flip out the first tray and underneath is the cushion. The packaging design makes it so easy to take with you on the go for touch-ups during the day, or for traveling - you have everything you need, a mirror, applicator and the product all nicely contained together in one convenient compact.

It is super easy to use. All you need to do is tap the applicator sponge that it comes with (or a brush if you prefer, but I found the sponge it comes with did a great job) onto the cushion and tap onto your face. It blends out really nice and easily. The coverage is sheer and can be built up, but I found that it was still a light foundation. One layer will give you a nice light "my skin but better" look and you can tap more on where you need or want it for fuller coverage. One of the great things about this foundation is that even when you build it up because it is so dewy and luminous, it doesn't look heavy or cakey at all. It doesn't emphasise your pores or cling onto any dry areas either. I found it did a great job of evening out my skin tone, but I did need to use some concealer to cover up my acne scaring.

Because it is a nice light weight foundation, it doesn't actually feel like you are wearing one, so it is nice and comfortable to wear. I think it would be amazing for in summer, when you want a nice fresh and healthy look that is quick and easy to do - and it has SPF 29.

It comes in 6 shades, I used the shade 03 which was quite a good match for my skin tone (between NC 15-20 in MAC for reference).

This would be amazing for dry skin since it is nice and dewy and luminous. I have normal/combination skin (mainly normal but I do get a bit oily through the T-zone), and it worked well and didn't get too shiny looking throughout the day. It is more suitable for normal-dry skin, but if you have oily skin and want to give it a go, I would definitely recommend setting it with a powder. This would also be perfect for anyone just starting out with makeup and foundation because it is so easy to apply, you can't really mess it up!

The L'Oreal Cushion is available in New Zealand at Farmers and selected pharmacies and retails for $33.99 NZD.

  1. A light weight foundation is always what I'm after! As a Mum, and a lazy person, make up is usually the last thing on my mind. So when I do use it, I don't like it to be too overpowering. If that makes sense haha ... great post!

  2. This looks so good! I saw it at farmers and the lady offered to colour match me but I had a full face on and plans later that day so I didn't - but now I want to!

    1. Haha I always feel so patchy after someone colour matches me! You definitely should though! Because it is a light/sheer foundation I think the shades are quite forgiving - probably why there are only 6 shades in the line - so it's a bit easier to work out your colour! :)
