Movie Round Up: The Best Of 2019

Happy New Year! 2019 was a big year for movies, so I have done a round-up of all of my favourites. This probably isn't an exhaustive list, and I will most likely remember a ton more that should be on this list, but these ones are what comes straight to mind when I think about the best movies of '19.

1. The Dirt

I am definitely biased with this one as a long time Motley Crue fan. But I loved it (and newly have a new reason to love it - apparently since it was so successful, it created a new generation of fans and so they are back together and touring again! That sure makes their final tour and the whole Alice Cooper beheading them on the last night situation a touch dramatic though, but that's cool). The Dirt follows the band's life from how they got together and all of the debauchery that followed. If you've read the book version, you already know the story and how great this movie is. There are lots of little details to look out for too like other rockstars in the background, etc.

2. Fighting With My Family

I didn't think I would particularly be a fan of this one, but it definitely makes the list of my 2019 faves. This follows the true story of Paige, who you'll know if you've watched Total Divas. Paige came from a family of wrestlers, and one day lands herself a spot in WWE's training program. It is a super interesting story of determination and success. There's a bit of comedy in there too with the Rock which was definitely a highlight.

3. Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw

This is one of those big movies - you know the type where even if you haven't seen the rest of the franchise or cars aren't really your thing, it's still a great movie you can appreciate. The Rock and Jason Stathem were great together and the cameos from Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart were amazing (can you tell I'm a comedy fan?). It is action-packed and full of visual effects and even has Cliff Curtis. So if that's your jam, this one will be for you.

4. Rocketman

I've seen it twice already and know some who have seen it at LEAST three times. Find out how Reginald Dwight became Elton John - it was a sadder journey than you probably realise. Full of all of his hits, and crazy costumes, what more could you want?

5. Last Christmas

Warning: you WILL have George Michael songs stuck in your head for an infinite amount of time after watching this. This may be my favourite Christmas movie now. It had all of the right stuff. Humour, heart, and a big twist (a twist which apparently everyone else saw coming except me). As well as the plot twist, and music, Santa was a huge highlight.

6. Terminator: Dark Fate

An absolute must-see if you're a fan of the Terminator movies. Find out if Arnold "will be back" after this new installment of action-packed goodness. The special effects are so good and realistic that you forget it's not really real. It's not essential that you see the previous movies before this one, but I don't see why you wouldn't want to.

What were your favorite movies of '19? Do any of these make your list too?
